Anyone who has been following this blog for a while knows that we are very excited about the work we're doing on Aramburu Island in San Francisco Bay. We recently finished a dramatic reshaping of the shoreline to better accommodate migratory shorebirds, and we're already seeing great results. Today, we had a team survey the island, and they saw 17 Double-crested Cormorants, 6 Brown Pelicans, 2 Black Turnstones, 1 Heermann's Gull, 1 Snowy Egret, 1 Great Egret, and 5 Black-bellied Plovers on the new shoreline. We’ve never seen Cormorants or Brown Pelicans on Aramburu before and our preliminary post-enhancement data indicates that more birds are using Aramburu after the project.
