The Mountain Plover isn't a spectacular looking bird, but it's always been one of our favorites because it recalls the wild open plains of the American West. As much of that grass habitat has declined, so too, unfortunately, has the Mountain Plover. But it can be found in small numbers in the Imperial Valley and the western edge of the Central Valley. This cool photo of one comes from the camera of K. Schneider.
