Recent rains bring a creek to life at the Audubon Bobcat Ranch

The video below shows a lively creek at the Audubon Bobcat Ranch during one of the recent heavy rains. The past two winters, the sanctuary's dry creek beds have absorbed what little precipitation they've received. Creek beds need to be saturated before they will flow. This December’s rains soaked the soils and sent waters running down our waterways. Dry ponds are capturing some of this water and providing drinking water for wildlife and livestock. The Audubon Bobcat Ranch is located in the Coast Range west of Winters.

And here's a nice shot of a recently filled pond on the ranch. In a normal year, this pond would be filled year-round, providing plenty of habitat and food for area birds. Let's hope this keeps up.
