Bill would repeal California requirement for nonlead ammunition for hunting

A California Assembly Member James Gallagher last week introduced legislation to reverse the state's groundbreaking law requiring the use of nonlead ammunition for hunting. In his press materials, Gallagher hauls out every argument that failed to stop Assembly Bill 711 from passage last year. The truth was that this bill had the support of a broad coalition of conservation, environmental, and public heath organizations -- and was bolstered by conclusive research that demonstrated that lead ammunition left in the environment poses a serious threat not just to birds and other wildlife, but to people as well. Expect Audubon California and other supporters of a lead-free environment to aggressively oppose this attempt to roll back progress.
