An adult male Painted Redstart has been seen by bird lovers in Newbury Park, located in Thousand Oaks. This elegant black, white, and red bird is a one of the more striking warblers. According to eBird data, the last time a Painted Redstart was seen in Ventura County was in 2013.
One lucky birder who heard about the rare bird was Stacey Bergman. She described the experience, "A local birder had posted this uncommon sighting of this Painted Redstart on our Yahoo bird group. It was very exciting to spot this little vibrant red breasted bird deep in the thick Oak trees! He flitted about from tree branch to tree limb and rarely stopped. When he did pause, he would flair out his beautiful tail... Almost as if he was showing it off! What a fantastic treat to see this beautiful little bird in our neighborhood."
