We are proud to announce that Marcos Trinidad, Director of the Audubon Center at Debs Park, was recently recognized by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), as the recipient of one of NAAEE’s hallmark annual awards recognizing leadership in the field. Trinidad was honored with the Rosa Parks and Grace Lee Boggs Award in recognition of his leadership in environmental justice education and advocacy.
The Rosa Parks and Grace Lee Boggs Outstanding Service Award is presented annually to an individual in recognition of their leadership in educating and promoting action to support environmental education and environmental justice at the local, state, or global level.
“Marcos Trinidad exemplifies truly inspirational environmental educators. He is leading the way toward a more sustainable society from classrooms to communities across North America,” said Judy Braus, NAAEE’s Executive Director.
For two decades, Trinidad has advanced diversity, equity, and inclusion in the environmental movement, including co-directing LA’s Environmental Professionals of Color (EPOC) chapter. Through EPOC, Trinidad promoted and sponsored forums for people of color working in environmentally related careers. He previously served as Director of Audubon Youth Environmental Stewards (YES), a job-training program of the Palos Verdes and South Bay Audubon Society. This program taught at-risk youth the skills needed to obtain environmental stewardship jobs. Trinidad’s dedication to serving his community exemplifies the legacy of environmental and social justice activists Rosa Parks and Grace Lee Boggs.
