USFWS recommends delisting of Inyo California Towhee

As part of its regular review of listed species under the Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service this month recommended delisting the Inyo California Towhee, a subspecies of the California Towhee. The species is currently listed as Threatened. The Argus Range-Southern Important Bird Area is dedicated to this species. The Service reviewed 12 species in all for potential delisting, but opted to take no action on the following: Burke's goldfields, Contra Costa goldfields, Lyon's pentachaeta, Peirson's milk-vetch, purple amole, Riverside fairy shrimp, San Bernardino bluegrass, and San Diego fairy shrimp, Sebastopol meadowfoam, Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep, and Sonoma sunshine.

To delist species, the Service is required to determine that threats have been eliminated or controlled, based on several factors including population sizes and trends and the stability of habitat quality and quantity.
