Counting birds by remote camera at Año Nuevo

Audubon Magazine's blog, The Perch, has a great post about how rangers at Año Nuevo State Natural Reserve are using a remote high definition camera to monitor wildlife on Año Nuevo Island just offshore. Audubon California knows Gary Strachan, the supervising ranger at Año Nuevo, well. In fact, just a few months ago, he led a tour of folks from Audubon California around the reserve and impressed us all with both his deep knowledge of the area's native wildlife, but also his relentless enthusiasm for this beautiful place. Strachan knows his birds, and was anxious to use his camera for the Christmas Bird Count on the island. You can access the remote camera directly here.
