Lights out for Birds in San Francisco

Golden Gate Audubon is encouraging building owners, managers and tenants to turn off unnecessary lights at night to save natural resources, money and birds during the fall migration. This fall we are asking for lights out for birds from August 15 until Oct. 30. If you are interested in becoming a Lights Out for Birds volunteer monitor please attend training on Wednesday Sept. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Randall Museum in San Francisco. Golden Gate Audubon will provide training and materials. The surveys will be conducted the week of Sept. 13 through Oct. 4 in the early morning hours. Please contact Jennifer Robinson at or Noreen Weedon if you want to participate or have questions.

Audubon Magazine has highlighted the issue of birds and tall building several times, including this article from 2004.
