Great editorial in the New York Times today highlights California's efforts to regulate the use of lead ammunition in 2013 to protect people and wildlife. Audubon California, the Humane Society of the United States, and Defenders of Wildlife led the effort to get that legislation passed. Much of that bill has been implemented, and it will be fully implemented in 2019.
What's the bird in the original intro to Twin Peaks? We got a little distracted today arguing about the ID of the bird in the original Twin Peaks introduction. It's the first image one sees when the show begins. One source seemed to think it was a Bewick's Wren, which seemed way off to us. We're going with female Varied Thrush. And yes, looking at the range map, it is native to the Pacific Northwest.
