Great editorial in the New York Times today highlights California's efforts to regulate the use of lead ammunition in 2013 to protect people and wildlife. Audubon California, the Humane Society of the United States, and Defenders of Wildlife led the effort to get that legislation passed. Much of that bill has been implemented, and it will be fully implemented in 2019.

It's the first image one sees when the show begins. One source seemed to think it was a Bewick's Wren, which seemed way off to us. We're going with female Varied Thrush. And yes, looking at the range map, it is native to the Pacific Northwest.
Citing potential impacts to birds and habitat, the Golden Gate Audubon Society has come out in opposition to a proposed new baseball stadium near Lake Merritt in downtown Oakland.
“We’re not antibaseball. We love the A’s, but we want them to stay where they are,” Cindy Margulis, the executive director of Golden Gate Audubon, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “When you put in a stadium and have all the additional cars and traffic, there will be additional contaminants coming into the lake. Oakland is a creative, imaginative city, and I think they can do better.”
Audubon California's Khara Strum ventures out to Sutter County to visit a rice farm that is flooding early to provide habitat for migratory birds. She uses the visit to talk about our work with the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the California Rice Commission to provide more habitat for these birds on farms.
