New York Times editorial notes California's success in regulating lead ammunition

Great editorial in the New York Times today highlights California's efforts to regulate the use of lead ammunition in 2013 to protect people and wildlife. Audubon California, the Humane Society of the United States, and Defenders of Wildlife led the effort to get that legislation passed. In another sign of problems at the Salton Sea, White Pelicans go missing

Surveying finds no American White Pelicans at the Salton Sea at a time when they should be arriving in large numbers.

What's the bird in the original intro to Twin Peaks? We got a little distracted today arguing about the ID of the bird in the original Twin Peaks introduction. We love the A’s, but we want them to stay where they are,” Cindy Margulis, the executive director of Golden Gate Audubon, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “When you put in a stadium and have all the additional cars and traffic, there will be additional contaminants coming into the lake. Oakland is a creative, imaginative city, and I think they can do better.”
