Putting the final word on a proposal to delist one of California's most sensitive seabirds, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service yesterday officially retained Threatened status for the Marbled Murrelet. The resolution of the review was not unexpected, as the Service indicated back in June that it was going to recommend retaining the bird's current state. Audubon California was one of many groups that argued that the protected status should remain in place. In fact, Audubon California joined state Audubon programs in Oregon and Washington to call for greater protections.
