Golden Gate Audubon opposing new stadium in Oakland

Citing potential impacts to birds and habitat, the Golden Gate Audubon Society has come out in opposition to a proposed new baseball stadium near Lake Merritt in downtown Oakland.

“We’re not antibaseball. We love the A’s, but we want them to stay where they are,” Cindy Margulis, the executive director of Golden Gate Audubon, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “When you put in a stadium and have all the additional cars and traffic, there will be additional contaminants coming into the lake. Oakland is a creative, imaginative city, and I think they can do better.”

Audubon California's Khara Strum ventures out to Sutter County to visit a rice farm that is flooding early to provide habitat for migratory birds. Audubon California applauds Legislature's passage of Senate Bill 5

September 16, 2017 — Senate Bill 5 will allow California voters to decide on critical funding for local regional, and state parks, as well as important conservation priorities, such as the Salton Sea.

Making Farmland Work for Wildlife

Audubon's new story series "What's a Stake" takes a look at conservation programs threatened by federal budget cuts and environmental policy rollbacks. The series highlights Audubon California's Conservation Program Director, Samantha Arthur, and her work with dairy farmers to protect Tricolored Blackbird colonies, which is funded by a federal program proposed for elimination.
